RE: Lotus Notes INstallation on Citrix MetaFrame XP instructions ~Rex Nimtumiteroopsi 1.Apr.03 09:37 PM a Web browser Notes Client All ReleasesWindows 2000
For those that weren't here for the whole story of Notes 5 and Citrix, here's what I remember. At early on (before 5.0.7?) it was a complicated mess to load a Notes client on Citrix. At 5.0.7 or .8 (I know it's there at 8), the 'Shared Install' check box appeared in the installation procedure.
At this level, you then load the software, checking that box. This loads the common (shared dlls. etc.) software into the appropriate places, doesn't put anything about Notes into the registry, and you are about ready to go. Each user then needs a mapped network drive with a Notes.ini, desktop.dsk, etc. (the usual local files), the shortcut points to them, and it works with little problem.
So, as far as I can tell, now there's no 'Shared Install' box on the ND6.0.1 Server installation. So, what do we do for ND6? Or, is this coming in a future release? I asked at LS2003 and people weren't sure whether it was in 6.0.1 or when.
I've searched through a lot of messages and some suggest that this is not coming at all. If not, this is a *BAD* thing. We, among many others, have hundreds of people that use Notes over Citrix and have to have it supported and easy to install to be able to move to ND6. We can't go back to 'everyone has to have a local copy of the client software on every PC they use'.
